A few weeks back, I wrote a short story for college titled You, You, You Otter Know. It was an absurdist piece that, admittedly, very few people in my class (including my professor) really understood. I’ve since edited it to add a few more pages (go back and check if you haven’t read it since the week before last) to give it some more dramatic flair.
This week, we started writing support pieces to kind of add to the universe we’ve created. In my story, Olivia (the main character) is a poet, so this kind of pigeonholed me when writing my support pieces. I’m not a poet, nor will I ever aspire to be. But, because I love writing and seeing what people have to say, I wrote a couple poems and decided to share them here.
Poem one: “To My Love” a haiku by Olivia Otterly
A sordid whisper
Beneath a shadowy sky
Our time will come soon
Poem two (this one is mentioned in the story): “On These Sandy Shores” a poem by Olivia Otterly
On these sandy shores, I can see for miles.
On these sandy shores, I may stay a while.
On these sandy shores, I can be free.
On these sandy shores, I can be me.
As the day passes, my mind will wander.
My time here, I will not squander.
On these sandy shores, the heart grows fonder.
